General Security
Security is an often overlooked aspect of computing. In today's world none of us would go out to work in the morning without locking our back door yet many computer systems are left open to intrusion by any casual passer-by or member of staff.
Internet connections bring a different set of problems, as well as intrusion attacks there are such things a Denial of Service (DOS) attacks, SPAM attacks and of course the Virus issue becomes even more prevalent. To assist us in this area we use state of the art tools to test system security - the same tools "hackers" use themselves to probe systems, scan them, look for weaknesses or a "way in".
All of these things are relatively simple to protect against and it's something we do regularly. From password policies to firewalls, firewall monitoring to security audits and virus protection we can help ensure the valuable data held by your I.T. system stays safe.
We support and monitor DshieldTM and the Internet Storm CentreTM. These are both resources which keep us informed of who is attacking the internet and what they are attacking it with.
Anti-Virus measures are essential too - we've all heard the news reports of Code Red and other nasty bugs which threatened to bring major corporations to their knees last year.
Never, ever forget about firewalls - an unprotected system on the internet is (according to SANS) likely to be compromised in under 20 minutes.
